Friends don't Let Friends use Online Lenders

Some closings and deals are smooth like butter and others are like every next step features a buttered floor full of marbles for you to slip on.  

This week’s helpful tip is use a local lender.  Let me be clear, I am not talking about one that has to be in Manchester or Tullahoma. I am speaking of avoiding the kind you might find after going to a popular website that can “approve you and get a lender to suit your needs”.  The sites are getting paid by the lead to get you to Mortgage Brokers that will try and convince you to use them. They will claim you are approved and ready to begin home shopping.  In my experience I have found that lenders who are not based in your community or surrounding area have little accountability to do a good job for you. They desire quick and easy deals.  Most of the time the communication is poor and they are quick to approve you without verifying any info. This can lead to a frustrating experience buying when you or your realtor doesn’t know the truth about your approval or the amount you are approved for.

So here is my advice on this, use a lender you have met. Use a lender you like. Use a lender who has shown they will communicate with you. Select a lender based on reputation that you can trust. There are several Mortgage Lenders in our area that I am certain will do a great job for you. There is certain accountability when you might run into your lender while shopping or out in your community.  Compare a few different lenders to see who will give you the best deal.  Maybe I am still old school on this but I really like to know the person I am doing business with and a hand shake still makes me feel more comfortable with the person. I had a teacher in 8^th grade who taught how to properly shake a hand and make eye contact. It tells you a lot about someone and you can’t get that off the internet.  (Thanks Mr. Clark)
